Helen is employed by the Tasmanian Health Service as the Clinical Nurse Educator for the PEPA (Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach) program. She is a registered nurse and has worked in both the acute care and aged care sectors, and for a lengthy period of time in Aboriginal health. The PEPA program is one of 12 National Palliative Care Projects funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health since 2003. The objectives of the program are to build the capacity of the healthcare workforce to provide high quality palliative care. Helen is mindful that everyone in Australia has the right to access high quality palliative care, and that it is essential that this care is culturally responsive to the needs of our diverse community. As such, Helen has been working with the Migrant Resource Centre and it’s PICAC Officers to revise and co-facilitate the palliative approach to care for culturally and linguistically diverse community workshops. These workshops have been well received in Tasmania. Helen is a current Board Member of Karadi Aboriginal Corporation and, Palliative Care Tasmania.

Dr Susan Feldman was the founding Director of The Alma Unit for Women and Ageing established in 1994 at the University of Melbourne, Associate Professor Healthy Ageing Research Units, Victoria and Monash Universities, and currently Adjunct Associate Professor Federation University. During her academic career she has engaged extensively with community dwelling older women to better understand their health and psycho-social wellbeing as they grow older. Her work has included in particular policy, social and health responses. Specific research has explored older women’s experiences of widowhood, gender, relationships across generations and extensive work with older women and men from a wide range of multicultural backgrounds.
