Support for Greek Grandparents Experiencing Family Conflict
Australian Greek Welfare Services (AGWS) Family Relationships program is in the process of commencing the recruitment of new participants for the next course commencing in March in the city of Monash.
The course/group is for Greek-speaking grandparents whose children are experiencing separation and/or divorce affecting their relationship with them and their grandchildren, who could benefit from a structured 6-week course offered by AGWS.
AGWS Grand parenting courses inform, educate, support and refer grandparents to various services (including Mediation) and Counselling according to their needs.
Courses are offered in small groups with Greek-speaking grandparents who face similar issues at Chadstone Mediation Centre (March 2015) & Brunswick at AGWS (July 2015) in a safe, confidential and respectful environment by professional bilingual Educators trained in the area of Family Relationships (Community Educator & Family Counsellor).
Courses cover the following:
- Information, education and skill development for grandparents affected by the separation or divorce of an adult child
- Information Family Law and the rights of grandchildren to have regular contact with their grandparents despite their parents’ conflict and/or separation/divorce
- Legal and other options for grandparents including access to Mediation
- Stress Management and Family Conflict resolution
- Effective Communication and positive engagement
- Advantages and disadvantages of the various styles of grand parenting and personalities types
- Looking after yourself (Cofacilitated with Carers Victoria)
- Relaxation techniques (Cofacilitated with Carers Victoria)
- Services offered through Mediation Centres
- AGWS Services and other supports
